This program explores the rich tapestry of folk traditions across continents, as Poulenc, Martinu, Bartók, and Beach transform songs of the people into works of striking originality and color. From French wit to Czech dance rhythms, Hungarian folk intensity to American lyricism, these pieces reveal how local voices can speak with universal resonance. We are especially delighted to welcome our guests: oboist Emily Pailthorpe, celebrated for her expressive tone and adventurous repertoire, and cellist Fred Edelen, whose artistry brings an added depth and vibrancy to this journey through global folk inspirations.
